QUINN healthcare announces premium increases for 2012

Quinn-healthcare has announced an average price increase of 12% on premiums to come into effect for January 2012. The company has blamed continued government increases to the health insurance levy and changes to Age Related Tax Relief (ARTR), where relief for 50-59 year olds was most recently removed.

VHI must now meet solvency requirements and face full regulation as EU Rule against Ireland

The EU, as expected, has ruled against Ireland for continuing to allow VHI an exemption from regulation by the Central Bank. As a result of this the VHI will now have to find over €300 Million to reach the solvency requirements that would allow it to meet the regulatory solvency requirements and be fully regulated.

VHI was Ireland’s only private health insurer, a semi-state body, for nearly 40 years. Deregulation saw the appearance of BUPA, (replaced by Quinn Healthcare) and later VIVAS Health, bought over by Aviva Health.
